OROVILLE >> The Kelseyville High School varsity girls basketball team needs a win over host Oroville on Saturday to claim a championship in the Duard Millet Tournament in Oroville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Knights improved to 2-0 in tournament action and 6-1 overall with a 36-19 victory over Corning on Friday in the semifinals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AJ Wurm scored 19 points and had eight steals, both team highs, while Mati Mateer added 13 points, six rebounds and three steals as the Knights won their sixth straight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe had another dominating defensive effort tonight,\u201d Kelseyville head coach Tim Conrad said. \u201cWe were everywhere defensively. The girls did a great job of mixing up our trap, zone and man defenses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelseyville outscored Corning 12-3 in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe fourth quarter was as dominant as it gets,\u201d Conrad said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aubree Sperber added two points and six rebounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAJ and Mati carried us again, but the whole team just plays so well together on the other side of the floor,\u201d Conrad said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelseyville plays Oroville at 3 p.m. on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the junior varsity backet of the tournament, Kelseyville fell 44-37 to Orland despite 10 points from Carly Gleason, seven from Gabby Keyes and six from Olivia Arredondo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe were 10-for-16 as a team from the free-throw line and for the second time this season all the girls scored,\u201d Kelseyville head coach Liz Berry said. \u201cWe trailed the whole second half, but the girls never hung their heads, and we were able to outscore them in the fourth quarter.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelseyville plays River Valley on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. as the tournament wraps up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lower Lake 42, Paradise 20<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Durham, Irianna Milano finished with 20 points while Lily Milano had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds as Lower Lake beat Paradise in the consolation semifinals of the Durham Tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lower Lake plays Princeton on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the consolation championship game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Milano girls had a great game tonight,\u201d Lower Lake head coach Shannon Tubbs said. \u201cLeading the team in scoring and steals (four) was Irianna Milano. Lily Milano had a double-double.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lower Lake took a 22-9 lead into halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe played a well-disciplined game,\u201d Tubbs said. \u201cAly Aguirre and Brooke Watson both logged three steals apiece. We kept our turnovers down tonight, so hopefully we can continue to build off this win and take the steps needed to improve game by game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upper Lake 58, Mendocino 25 (first round)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upper Lake 60, Round Valley 32 (second round)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Boonville, Upper Lake won both of its first two games in the second annual Sequoia Tournament on Friday at Anderson Valley High School, routing Mendocino in  first-round game and Round Valley in a second-round game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Against Round Valley, Alyssa John led the way with 30 points, going 7-for-8 from the free-throw line and hitting three 3-pointers. She also pulled down 11 rebounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rilee Zimmerschied added 11 points, eight rebounds and five steals while Aimee Schaefers had six points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Kalyn Smith added four points and 10 rebounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Against Mendocino, John\u2019s double-double of 28 points and 14 rebounds led the way. She also blocked five shots. Zimmerschied finished with 16 points and Schaefers pulled down 16 points. Camila Martin added five points and nine rebounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upper Lake (5-0) plays Laytonville on Saturday at 2 p.m. to close out the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Middletown 52, Tamalpais 23<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Healdsburg, Middletown head coach Roxi Holt was able to empty her bench early on against Tamalpais during the consolation semifinals of the 76th<\/sup> annual Redwood Empire Invitational Basketball Tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Middletown (5-2) plays Ukiah for the consolation championship Saturday at 12:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Everything we didn’t do last night (in a 49-39 loss to Healdsburg) we did a much better job at tonight,” Holt said. “I’m happy with our game today.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Middletown scored the games first six points and led 12-1 after one quarter. Tamalpais scored its first basket a little more than two minutes into the second quarter with the Mustangs leading 16-1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mixing her reserves with the starters almost from the start, Holt watched the Mustangs build a 21-8 halftime lead. Middletown continued to extend its lead throughout the second half. Reserve Brenna Goodloe scored the Mustangs\u2019 final three baskets of the third quarter for a 42-12 lead. Goodloe also opened her team\u2019s scoring with a bucket in the fourth quarter. She finished with 10 points, joining teammates Autumn Clark (12 points) and Harley Holley (12 points) in double digits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe made some great passes today,\u201d Holt said. \u201cI was able to get the reserves a lot of playing time and it\u2019s always nice when that happens. Brenna did a good job.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pioneer 72, Clear Lake 42<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Arbuckle, Pioneer pulled away with a 23-9 first quarter and never looked back against Clear Lake in the winner\u2019s semifinal round of the Natalie Corona Tournament at Pierce High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faith McIntire led the Cardinals (4-4) with 11 points while Amelie Davis added seven points and six rebounds, and Karsyn Greer had seven points. Kam Cresto pulled down 10 rebounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clear Lake wraps up tournament play Saturday with a game against tournament host Pierce at 3:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lower Lake 58, Upper Lake 14 (JV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Lower Lake, Eden Sparks finished with 14 points and teammate Samira Mendez 13 as the Trojans defeated Upper Lake in opening-round action of the Lower Lake JV Tournment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Darleen Benefield added nine points and Lexi Mitchell seven as the Trojans improve to 6-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe came out fast and hard at the beginning with solid defense and quick ball movement up the court,\u201d Lower Lake head coach Jessica Lackowski said.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lower Lake plays Clear Lake and Point Arena on Saturday as the tournament concludes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clear Lake 21, Point Arena 19<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Lower Lake, Clear Lake\u2019s JV team held off Point Arena in the opening round of the Lower Lake JV Tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cardinals (3-0) play Lower Lake and Willits on Saturday as the tournament wraps up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDespite the win, this was a difficult game for us,\u201d Clear Lake head coach Tony Farrington said. \u201cWe came out flat and low energy, and we just could not find the bottom of the net.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ava Gamble, a freshman, led the Cardinals with 13 points while sophomore Hailey Perez had five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn the positive side, the team did show some grit, and chose not to give up and dug in, which led to a comeback in the fourth quarter when we outscored the Pirates 11-4.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
