ST. HELENA >> Playing with only seven players for the second time this week, the Kelseyville Knights outscored St. Helena 35-30 in the second half to win 57-52 in a second-round game at the Sutter Home Classic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unfortunately for the Knights (3-1), winners of three straight, there won\u2019t be a third tournament game Saturday as their scheduled opponent, Richmond, won\u2019t be able to attend because Richmond teachers are on strike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur intensity was much better tonight,\u201d Kelseyville head coach Tim Conrad said. \u201cWe all came to play tonight. A big third quarter helped propel us. Turnovers and end-game smarts almost cost us, but we fought through.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelseyville scored nearly as many points in the third quarter (21) as it did in the first half when the two teams battled to a 22-22 tie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Knights took a 43-38 lead into the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AJ Wurm capped a big week with a season-best 28 points. She scored 23 and 22 in her two previous games this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAJ was awesome,\u201d Conrad said. \u201cShe led the way with 28 points, and many were tough buckets that we needed.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Added Conrad, \u201cOur other two seniors really worked hard and led by example. Mati (Mateer) and Liz (Erlandson) just helped keep us focus and did all of the little things.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aubree Sperber added 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals, Grace Hobbs had eight points, six rebounds and five steals while Mateer contributed six points, nine rebounds and four assist. Erlandson had one point, seven rebounds and four steals. Wurm added six steals and five assists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Knights host Lower Lake in the North Central League I opener for both teams Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In other girls tournament action Friday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clear Lake 50, Averroes 9<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Petaluma, Clear Lake routed Averroes of Fremont in the consolation semifinals of the Lady Mustangs Tip-Off Classic at St. Vincent High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clear Lake (2-2) led 14-0 after one quarter and 31-1 at halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faith McIntire led the Cardinals with 11 points while Atiana Patino and Karsyn Greer added nine apiece. Jazmin Wiebusch had six. Nine of 10 Clear Lake players found the scoring column.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clear Lake plays for the consolation championship Saturday at 10:30 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upper Lake 60, Roseland Collegiate Prep 10<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Santa Rosa, Alyssa John scored 23 points with four 3-pointers and Camila Martin added 20 points as the Upper Lake Cougars defeated Roseland College Prep in a non-league game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sofia Cruz and Magdely Garcia each had eight points for the Cougars (2-0).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upper Lake opens its league schedule Tuesday at home against Fort Bragg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Windsor 61, Lower Lake 36<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Cloverdale, the Windsor Jaguars advanced to the championship game of the Sandy Mac Memorial Tournament with a win over the Lower Lake Trojans at Cloverdale High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Windsor will play Ferndale to the tournament title Saturday at 2 p.m. while Lower Lake draws tournament host Cloverdale in the third-place game at 12:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis was a gut-check game,\u201d Lower Lake head coach Shannon Tubbs said of going up against Windsor. \u201cThey are extremely physical and a high-caliber opponent. The girls were intimidated entering the game after watching them put up 99 points last night.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lower Lake (1-2) trailed 35-10 at halftime but played better in the second half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe way that they answered back in the second half, I\u2019m excited about this team\u2019s potential,\u201d Tubbs said of the Trojans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brooke Watson was Lower Lake\u2019s top scorer with 10 points, including a 3-pointer, while Irianna Milano and Lily Milano each had seven points. Jamiya Lee-Ayers contributed three points and a team-best 11 rebounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

JV girls basketball<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelseyville 26, Calistoga 19<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Kelseyville, Carly Gleason\u2019s 12 points and seven rebounds propelled the Kelseyville junior varsity to a win over Calistoga in the opening round of the Kelseyville JV Tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe had a slow start to the game and just couldn\u2019t get the ball in the basket,\u201d Kelseyville head coach Liz Berry said. \u201cBut the girls picked it up in the second half. We focused on our fundamentals tonight and everything else improved.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Olivia Arredondo added six points and five rebounds in the win. Brooke Poff had three points and five steals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelseyville (2-1) plays twice more on Saturday, including against Upper Lake at noon, as the tournament wraps up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lower Lake 52, Fort Bragg 39<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Kelseyville, Urijah Rogers\u2019 double-double of 11 points and 14 rebounds helped power the Lower Lake JV squad past Fort Bragg in first-round action at the Kelseyville JV Tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samira Mendez and Eden Sparks joined Rogers in double digits with 15 and 13 points, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt was a well-played game by all players,\u201d Lower Lake head coach Jessica Lackowski said. \u201cWe were able to go deep on our bench to give more girls access to quality floor time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Added Lackowski, \u201cThere\u2019s still some things to clean up defensively, and we need to finish our layups, but we see growth. Urijah Rogers worked hard in the paint with 14 rebounds, and putting most of them back up.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trojans are 2-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lower Lake plays two more tournament games Saturday, beginning with a contest against Calistoga at 10:30 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Middletown 42, Encinal 13<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Windsor, Middletown bounced back from a tough opening-round loss to Ukiah by smacking Encinal in the consolation semifinals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe whole team contributed to this win,\u201d Middletown head coach Daryl Dacosta said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grace Williams led the way with 10 points while Maddie de la Torre added a season-best eight points. Emma Jones also had eight points and Chloe Pulido added six more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mustangs (5-1) led 14-2 after one quarter and 27-4 at halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Middletown plays for the consolation championship on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upper Lake 43, Willits 30<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Kelseyville, Upper Lake pulled down two of the sophomores playing at the varsity level \u2013 Kaylin Smith and Rylee Zimmerschied \u2013 to help out against Willits in a first-round game at the Kelseyville JV Tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was a good call as Smith led the way with 18 points followed by Zimmerschied with 15. Kenzie Foley had six.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe girls started off very strong in the first quarter, then let up a bit in the second quarter, but after halftime we came out strong, keeping the lead the entire game and coming out with the win,\u201d Upper Lake head coach Natalie Karlsson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Added Karlsson, \u201cRylee hit a three to start off our second half, coming off a down-low screen for a corner three, and that really set the tempo for the second half.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
