HELENA &gt;&gt; Kelseyville outscored Casa Grande 22-10 in the fourth quarter to beat the Gauchos 50-45 in the opening round of the Sutter Home Classic on Thursday evening in St. Helena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBig fourth-quarter comeback tonight as we took our first lead of the entire game with under three minutes to play,\u201d Kelseyville head coach Tim Conrad said. \u201cAubree Sperber hit a hug three to put us down by one, and then AJ (Wurm) took over with several fastbreak layups.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wurm, a senior guard, led the way with 23 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t play our best,\u201d Conrad said. \u201cOur energy was low most of the game. We played just good enough to keep it close and then our depth and hustle helped pull out the comeback win.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mati Mateer also played a big part in the win with 13 points, nine rebounds, five steals and three assists. Wurm added five steals and three assists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other contributors for Kelseyville were Sperber with nine points and Grace Hobbs with five points, five steals and three rebounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Casa Grande led 14-10 after one quarter and 24-23 at halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelseyville (2-1) plays St. Helena on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The tournament runs through Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other girls tournament action Thursday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Lower Lake 40, Hoopa 28<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Cloverdale, Brooke Watson came off the bench to score a team-leading 14 points as the Lower Lake Trojans knocked off the Hoopa Warriors in opening-round action at the Sandy Mac Memorial Tournament in Cloverdale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrantic start with a lot of turnovers, then we settled in defensively, which created out offense,\u201d Lower Lake head coach Shannon Tubbs said as the Trojans (1-1) nailed down theair first win of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoopa held an 11-2 lead after one quarter, but Lower Lake stormed back with a 16-4 second quarter to grab an 18-15 halftime lead. The Trojans were up 30-21 after three quarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBrooke Watson came off the bench and led the team in scoring,\u201d Tubbs said. \u201cShe gave us a nice spark we needed. (Jamiya) Lee-Ayers played a great game inside, getting to the foul line and creating shots for herself.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lee-Ayes finished with nine points while Irianna Milano had five and Mary Watson four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUsed a number of girls who played man defense on their best shooter,\u201d Tubbs said. Mary and Brooke Watson, Leanna Ortga and Aly Aguirre all rotated and played great defense.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Milano and Lee-Ayers pulled down five rebounds apiece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lower Lake plays Windsor in the winner\u2019s semifinals Friday at 6:30 p.m. The tournament runs through Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>St. Vincent 56, Clear Lake 40<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Petaluma, tournament host St. Vincent beat the Clear Lake Cardinals in the opening round of the Lady Mustangs Tip-Off Classic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>St. Vincent outscored Clear Lake 17-6 in the second quarter to open up a 27-17 halftime lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kam Cresto had a double-double for Clear Lake (1-2) with 10 points and 16 rebounds while Faith McIntire added 10 points and nine rebounds. Atiana Patino added five points while Jazmin Wiebusch and Amelie Davis each had four points. Davis also had seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>St. Vincent took a 39-28 lead into the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clear Lake plays Averroes in the consolation semifinals Friday at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ukiah 39, Middletown 37 (JV)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Windsor, the Middletown junior varsity squad dropped its first game of the season, but not before battling the Ukiah Wildcats down to the final buzzer in the opening round of the Windsor JV Tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was back and forth against a really good team,\u201d Middletown head coach Daryl Dacosta said. \u201cWe just came up short at the end.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emma Davis led the Mustangs (4-1) with 14 points, including one of the team\u2019s four 3-pointers, and 14 rebounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEmma Davis was huge for us with her double-double, but there were just too many costly fouls at the end of the game that sent Ukiah to the free-throw line,\u201d Dacosta said. \u201cThey edged us out in the end, but the girls played one heck of a game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ally Cherry and Chloe Pulido scored seven points apiece for Middletown and Grace Williams had six. Pulido also pulled down seven rebounds while Williams finished with eight steals and six rebounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown plays in the consolation semifinals Friday.
