{"id":4881,"date":"2025-12-02T19:17:30","date_gmt":"2025-12-02T19:17:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=4881"},"modified":"2025-12-02T19:17:30","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T19:17:30","slug":"mtown-teams-beat-obsidian-in-league-opener","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=4881","title":{"rendered":"M&#8217;town teams beat Obsidian in league opener"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Harbison scores 14 points for Broncos in 48-47 victory in A game<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MIDDLETOWN &gt;&gt; Battling into overtime, the Middletown Middle School A girls basketball team edged Obsidian Middle School 48-47 in the league opener for both teams Monday evening in Middletown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remmi Harbison\u2019s 14 points led the Broncos while Sophia Perez added 12 and Sophia Azevedo nine more before fouling out in the third quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBoth teams played hard in what was an exciting game,\u201d Middletown head coach Wayne Harbison said. \u201cIt hurt to lose Sophia Azevedo early in the third quarter, but we had an 11-point lead with under five minutes to play and it was quickly erased. Obsidian didn\u2019t give up.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was an amazing, competitive thriller that ended up not in our favor, but I could not be prouder of these girls and the team effort it took to battle this hard,\u201d Obsidian head coach Claire Alderson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mariah Robinson led the Bears with 15 points and Analayah Beck had 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alderson coached Obsidian\u2019s B team last season before moving up to the A team this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was the B-team coach last year, so when I moved to the A team this year, we now have the same coach and team as we did last year,\u201d Alderson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Added Harbison of Middletown\u2019s win, \u201cThey kept the pressure on the whole game. Rylee Gabert stepped in and played great and so did Carlee Williams. Just an incredible first game to open league.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both schools are on the road next Monday. Obsidian visits Upper Lake while Middletown travels to Kelseyville to play Mountain Vista Middle School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>B game<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown\u2019s B team also won its league opener, beating Obsidian 35-8 behind eight points from Lola Fults and six apiece from Emmie Hernandez, Madison Lewis and Maddie Richter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Lady Broncos were successful in causing multiple turnovers with their swarming defense and were able to get easy baskets in transition from their defensive effort on the other end of the court,\u201d Middletown head coach Dustin Fults said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA spark off the bench with four points of her own was Aaliyah Gancayco, who was able to keep the defensive strategy alive with multiple steals, fastbreak points and assists,\u201d Fults said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am really proud of our effort tonight and the defense we put together for four quarters,\u201d Fults added. \u201cDespite the challenges of taking three days off of practice with the holiday and many players out of town, the team held their ground against a much bigger, stronger team.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Harbison scores 14 points for Broncos in 48-47 victory in A game Lake County Sports on Facebook MIDDLETOWN &gt;&gt; Battling into overtime, the Middletown Middle School A girls basketball team edged Obsidian Middle School 48-47 in the league opener for both teams Monday evening in Middletown.
