{"id":4535,"date":"2025-10-29T19:30:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-29T19:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=4535"},"modified":"2025-10-29T19:30:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T19:30:09","slug":"upper-lake-middletown-close-with-1-1-tie","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=4535","title":{"rendered":"Upper Lake, Middletown close with 1-1 tie"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Cougars score late to forge 1-1 draw in season finale for both teams<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MIDDLETOWN &gt;&gt; Chalk up another boys soccer season for the Middletown Mustangs and Upper Lake Cougars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two North Central League I squad played to a 1-1 tie on Tuesday in the season finale for both teams at Middletown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upper Lake\u2019s Jaden Nunez scored late in the second half to erase a 1-0 Middletown lead as the Mustangs (0-11-1, 1-15-2) just missed winning their first league game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was a tough game,\u201d Upper Lake head coach Thomas Santana said. \u201cMiddletown played hard, so did we. We just couldn\u2019t find the back of the net. In the first half we were attacking at their net hard, but nothing came of it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown scoring wasn&#8217;t reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown scored a first-half goal but could get nothing else against the Upper Lake defense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey (Mustangs) waited and played the counterattack perfectly,\u201d Santana said. \u201cIn the second half they were attacking well but Alan Alvarado (Upper Lake keeper) had a great game. He had 11 saves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown\u2019s 1-0 lead held until Nunez earned a penalty kick and made it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe could\u2019ve done a little more, but we fought hard and didn\u2019t give up,\u201d Santana said of his 13-player squad. \u201cIt was a tough season full of ups and downs, but I\u2019m proud of the last 13 guys I had left standing at the end of it all. I\u2019m proud of my seniors for giving it their all in their last game. We improved so much from the past two years and I\u2019m excited to see what these juniors can do next year as seniors. There is a lot of potential next year.
