{"id":3828,"date":"2025-09-05T17:52:23","date_gmt":"2025-09-05T17:52:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=3828"},"modified":"2025-09-05T17:52:23","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T17:52:23","slug":"khs-boys-advance-to-finals-in-shootout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=3828","title":{"rendered":"KHS boys advance to finals in shootout"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Lower Lake drops 2-1 decision to Calistoga at Tyler Duncan Memorial Tournament<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UPPER LAKE &gt;&gt; In a penalty-kick shootout that went down to the wire, the Kelseyville Knights beat Credo on Thursday night to advance to the championship game of the Tyler Duncan Memorial Tournament at Upper Lake High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelseyville (4-2) draws either Fortuna or Fort Bragg in the tournament finals Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in Upper Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the two teams battled to a scoreless deadlock in regulation, the game came down to a penalty-kick shootout that ended with Miguel Corona, Kelseyville team captain, booting through the winning goal to snap a 3-3 tie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTwo very evenly matched teams,\u201d Kelseyville head coach Kc White said. \u201cBoth teams had good opportunities, both teams wanted the W, but we stuck together and pulled through.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After both teams missed their first penalty kick, Credo hit its next three while Kelseyville made two of three \u2013 by Luis Alvarado and Sebastian Cacho.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diego Serrato blocked what would have been a game winner on Credo\u2019s fifth shot, then Kelseyville\u2019s Diego Rico scored to tie it up at 3-3. Credo missed its sixth and seventh shots and the Knights missed their sixth. Corona came through on Kelseyville\u2019s seventh shot, driving it into the back of the net.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI told my guys, win or lose, this was a great moment to be a part of, but it\u2019s a hell of a lot better to win,\u201d White said. \u201cIt\u2019s not every day you get to participate in a shootout, and they seized the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>White likes the direction his team is taking as it approaches the start of its North Central League I schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are growing more and more confident right now and peaking at the exact right time for league next week,\u201d White said. \u201cAs a coach of many of these guys for four years, we have grown into a family. We have endured the lowest lows (combined eight victories the last two years) and now we are battle tested from playing in the grueling winter season.
