{"id":3718,"date":"2025-08-26T20:51:17","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T20:51:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=3718"},"modified":"2025-08-26T22:29:27","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T22:29:27","slug":"mtown-kville-girls-win-soccer-games","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=3718","title":{"rendered":"M&#8217;town, K&#8217;ville girls win soccer games"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Middletown boys take early lead in 3-1 loss to Calistoga<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MIDDLETOWN &gt;&gt; Bella Alcantar, a senior, scored goals in both halves as the Middletown High School varsity girls soccer team beat Calistoga 3-2 on Monday in Middletown, squaring the Mustangs\u2019 record at 1-1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere are many positives from the game, but there are also many elements we need to develop and adjust,\u201d Middletown head coach Lee Hoage said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the positives were Alcantar and some solid play off the Middletown bench.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlcantar was dialed in on goal tonight delivering two nice scores for us,\u201d Hoage said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown also overcame the loss of three missing defensive starters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had some new players step up big in the back like freshman Kenzie Sheffer,\u201d Hoage said. \u201cSenior captain Diva Ruiz kept the shape in defense and stifled Calistoga most of the game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoage also praised the play of his midfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSenior captain Diana Montes helped control the midfield and set up several attacks out of the midfield with junior Thaly Rodriguez Meza,\u201d Hoage said. \u201cWe also had some nice scoring opportunities and pressure on their goal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sophomore Ally Cherry, an All-League first-team striker for the Mustangs last season, fired a shot into the left corner to give Middletown a 2-0 lead in the second half. Alcantar\u2019s second goal of the game made it 3-0 later in the half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur team was tenacious, and our seasoned players worked well with our new players,\u201d Hoage said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown continues its non-league schedule Friday in Tomales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other girls soccer action Monday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kelseyville 3, Ferndale 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Kelseyville, the Kelseyville Knights scored a pair of goals in the final eight minutes of the first half to go up 2-0 and went on to defeat the Ferndale Wildcats in non-league action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelseyville is off to a 4-0 start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Lady Knights battled through the heat today and showed how much they\u2019ve grown as a team,\u201d Kelseyville head coach Irma Rodriguez said. \u201cMidfielders and defenders held strong, pushing the ball forward and setting up opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mikaela Rico scored the first of her two goals with eight minutes remaining in the first half to break up a scoreless deadlock. The Knights were awarded a penalty kick with two minutes remaining in the half and Banesa Munoz buried her shot into the back of the net, making it 2-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelseyville added to its lead in the second half.
