Kelseyville defeats Anderson Valley in Coastal Mountain Conference North home match<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

KELSEYVILLE >> Kelseyville beat Anderson Valley 3-2 in Coastal Mountain Conference North tennis action Tuesday at the Gard Street courts, winning two out of three singles matches and splitting in doubles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelseyville (8-3) finishes up its conference and regular-season schedule Thursday on the road against the same Anderson Valley team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maddy Borghesani (first singles) and Ryan Taylor (second singles) provided the Knights with two of their three wins. Kelseyville also received a forfeit in second doubles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Borghesani beat Dylan Elgio 6-1, 6-4 while Taylor swept Wyatt Gatlin 6-0, 6-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDylan\u2019s a defensive play and tried to play \u2018cat-and-mouse\u2019 tennis, drawing Maddy to the net with short, soft shots,\u201d Kelseyville head coach Andy Dobusch said. \u201cUnfortunately for Dylan, the cat caught the mouse. Maddy played her most varied match of the season. She didn\u2019t just bang the ball from the baseline, she mixed it up with some slices, off-pace, and play at the net. She served well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Added Dobusch, \u201cIt was a good overall match. It showed growth in her game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taylor\u2019s straight-set victory was all about dominating his opponent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRyan didn\u2019t take his foot off the pedal today,\u201d Dobusch said. \u201cIn a few matches this season, Ryan started strong and fell off as the matches progressed. Not today. He started strong and finished strong. He never let Wyatt in the match.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anderson Valley\u2019s Guy Kephart beat Olivia Hommer 6-4, 6-2 in third singles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToo many unforced errors and missed first serves,\u201d Dobusch said. \u201cGuy took advantage of some weak second serves and just let Olivia overhit weak returns.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anderson Valley picked up another win in first doubles as Carlos Valdivia and Arego Garcia outlasted Olivia Raabe and Riley Lopez 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cClose match that could have gone either way,\u201d Dobusch said. \u201cWe were the more experienced team and looked more polished on the court but ultimately couldn\u2019t prevail against the unorthodox play of Carlos and Arego.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an exhibition singles match, Bushey and Riley Hanson fell 9-7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOlivia and Riley played great, they\u2019re getting more consistent, powerful and smart with their shots,\u201d Dobusch said. \u201cWe need to work on putting the ball away when we get the chance. We lost a lot of points that should have ended early.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dobusch said the Knights received a nice compliment from the Anderson Valley coach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe told me he was jealous of the ability, attitude and potential of the KHS team,\u201d Dobusch said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
