Middle school softball teams battle it out around county<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

KELSEYVILLE >> The Upper Lake Wildcat built an early 10-1 lead before holding off the Mountain Vista Lancers 10-8 in middle school softball action Monday afternoon in Kelseyville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe got off to a slow start, too many fielding errors and no timely hitting,\u201d Mountain Vista head coach Patrick Mick said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lancers (2-5 league, 6-5 overall) trailed 10-1 after two innings. They spent the remainder of the game battling back, closing to 10-3 after three innings, 10-7 after four, and 10-8 in the bottom of the fifth when they had the potential tying run at the plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe were able to accumulate 13 hits, earning 10 of those with good baserunning,\u201d Upper Lake coach Wyatt Hensley said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bella Stillman earned the pitching win while Taylor Wood took the loss. Madi Byrne pitched the final two innings for the Lancers and allowed no runs while striking out five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jordyn Parker and Sabrina Wenning both went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for the Wildcats. Kylee Solorio went 3-for-3 with a RBI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Mountain Vista, Carly Gleason went 2-for-3 and Byrne went 1-for-1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mountain Vista is on the road Wednesday to play Obsidian while Upper Lake hosts Terrace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In other middle school softball action Monday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terrace 10, Middletown 0 (5 inn.)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Lakeport, Sophia Gonzalez allowed only two hits while shutting out the Middletown Broncos in five innings. Gonzalez struck out four and walked four.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mariah Pruitt went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a triple and a run batted in for the Vikings. Alessandra Zavala led the Vikings with three RBIs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur defense was solid, and we committed only one error,\u201d Terrace head coach Lynn Cruz said. \u201cCommunication was key and on point.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur baserunning was once again the difference in the game,\u201d Terrace coach Shady Cerezo said of the team\u2019s 16 stolen bases. \u201cWe were aggressive on the basepaths, which forced some errant throws.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sophie Stetson (1-for-1) and Jaquelin Nunez (1-for-2) had the only Middletown hits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terrace hosts Fort Bragg on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lucerne 10, Obsidian 5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Lucerne, the Lucerne Eagles are in the win column after beating the Obsidian Bears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAggressive baserunning and speed got us our first win of the season,\u201d Lucerne head coach Fred Miller said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winning pitcher Angelina Gozony struck out six and walked three. At the plate, first baseman Chevelle Sprague went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and scored twice, and center fielder Lucy Boke went 1-or-2 with a RBI and a run scored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shortstop Sophie Basurto scored three times for the Eagles and catcher Ally Abreu scored twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lucerne hosts Middletown on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
