Middle school softball action enters homestretch around Lake County<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

UPPER LAKE >> Kyra Santos\u2019 two-run triple in the bottom of the fourth inning sealed a 5-2 victory for the Upper Lake Wildcats over the Lucerne Eagles on Wednesday during middle school softball action in Upper Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upper Lake jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Lucerne closed to 3-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLucerne played aggressive on defense today and had some great hits,\u201d Upper Lake coach Wayne Hensley said. \u201cIt was a great team effort for the Lady Wildcats today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Santos finished the game 2-for-3 as did teammate Kylee Solorio (2-for-3, triple, RBI). Sabrina Wenning went 2-for-2 with a double.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Lucerne, a 12-0 loser in four innings to Upper Lake the last time these two teams played, Sophie Basurto went 1-for-3 with a triple, Chevelle Sprague went 1-for-3 with a RBI, and Bella O\u2019Sullivan went 1-for-2. Natalia Harley also drove in a run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA huge improvement from our first game against Upper Lake,\u201d Lucerne head coach Fred Miller said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Losing pitcher Angelina Gozony struck out seven and walked none.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In other middle school softball action Wednesday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Obsidian 11, Middleton 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Clearlake Oaks, winning pitcher Alison Bobbit struck out 12 while throwing a two-hitter against the Middletown Broncos. Bobbit also went 2-for-3 with a RBI at the plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur team played great defense,\u201d Obsidian head coach Luis Perez said. \u201cEveryone contributed in some way today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One game after hitting for the cycle, Eden Sparks went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Obsidian. Lexi Mitchell and Zeanna Carver both went 2-for-3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe only run we allowed was due to a wild pitch,\u201d Perez said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Obsidian is now 3-2 in league play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Claire Irwin (1-for-2) and Anaya Kilstrom (1-for-3) had the only hits for Middletown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Losing pitcher Lilliaunna Reyes allowed six runs (four earned) in 2 1\/3 innings while striking out two and walking seven.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Middletown is 3-3 in league play and 7-3 overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both teams return to action Monday when Obsidian visits Lucerne and Middletown travels to Lakeport to take on Terrace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terrace 11, Mountain Vista 1 (4 inn.)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Lakeport, strong pitching from Sophia Gonzalez helped carry the Terrace Vikings to an easy win over the visiting Mountain Vista Lancers, who could field only nine players.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTerrace came to hit today, and their pitcher is good,\u201d Mountain Vista head coach Patrick Mick said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe team really came together to bring home the win,\u201d Terrace head coach Lynn Cruz said. \u201cSophia Gonzalez has been working hard with her confidence on the mound and it\u2019s truly starting to show.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gonzalez had all kinds of offensive support from her teammates, including Mariah Pruitt (2-for-3, two doubles, two RBIs) and Amelie Davis (2-for-3, triple, two RBIs). Also contributing were Hayden Perez with a triple and two RBIs and Cassie Gomez with a double. Abby Malley also had a hit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHayden Perez had her first real hit in the second inning with two RBIs,\u201d Cruz said. \u201cThis team is really fun to watch.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lancers had to juggle their lineup with five players missing for a variety of reasons, according to Mick. \u201cThat was tough, but again no excuses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gonzalez struck out eight and walked three. Losing pitcher Maylee Antoni worked the first two innings for Mountain Vista.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
