{"id":3049,"date":"2025-04-19T18:03:30","date_gmt":"2025-04-19T18:03:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=3049"},"modified":"2025-04-19T18:03:30","modified_gmt":"2025-04-19T18:03:30","slug":"mhs-varsity-girls-win-norcal-small-schools-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=3049","title":{"rendered":"MHS varsity girls win NorCal Small Schools title"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Mustangs bring home handful of medals from competition at Chico High School<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CHICO &gt;&gt; Two days before Easter, the Middletown High School varsity girls track team scored the golden egg Friday afternoon by topping a 20-team field at the NorCal Small Schools Invitational at Chico High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNot everyone from my team attended the meet today, but those who did performed well,\u201d Middletown head coach Wyatt Hall said. \u201cThis was our last meet before we have spring break. I wanted to go into break on a high note and we did.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clear Lake High School also had athletes entered in the meet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Top-three finishers in all events received medals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Varsity girls<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Isa Barnes, Krystal Ocken and Cat Barriga placed high for the team-champion Mustangs in the varsity girls division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Barnes finished second in the 100-meter hurdles (17.39 seconds), fourth in the long jump (14 feet, 4 inches) and fifth in the 300 hurdles (51.64). Ocken added second- and fourth-place finishes in the shotput and discus, respectively. The senior had a throw of 31-7 in the shotput and 86-7 in the discus. Barriga placed third in the 1,600 meters (6 minutes, 10.01 seconds) and fourth in the 800 (2:46.87).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sophie Yebra finished third in the 3,200 (14:12.45) to bring home another medal for the Mustangs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith only one league meet and one invitational left before the CMC Championships, I like where my girls\u2019 team is at,\u201d Hall said. \u201cOur goal from the beginning was to maintain the league title after winning (it) last year. I think we\u2019ve got a good chance, but the CMC meet is always a battle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Varsity boys<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown\u2019s varsity boys placed 10<sup>th<\/sup> in the team standings led by Landon Pisaro\u2019s third-place finish in the 3,200 (11:57.08) and a fifth-place finish by Seth Watson in the discus (122-9).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clear Lake\u2019s Nolan Ewing took fifth in the 200 (23.81) and sixth in the 100 (11.83).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown\u2019s 4&#215;100 relay team of Watson, Bryton Caviness, Esteban Muniz and Alexander Gonzales came in sixth (48.63).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>JV girls<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown placed fourth as a team. Lupita Cabrera won the 3,200 (15:59.04) and was second in the 1,600 (6:48.12) while teammate Crystal Duval was second in the shotput (28-1) and third in the discus (76-0).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jolene Holley came away with a medal in the high jump, placing second in 4-8, and she also finished sixth in the 200 (30.72).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other top finishers were Jadyn Owens, who was fourth in the long jump (12-1), and Emma Stark, who placed fifth in the 300 hurdles (1:04.72) and sixth in the 100 hurdles (20.79).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJoline Holley cleared 4-8 in the high jump, tying the best mark for JV girls, but she was given second place based on previous attempts,\u201d Hall said. \u201cHolley continues to impress e with her improvement as the season continues. She is now only three inches off the school record, and she\u2019s only a freshman.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Added Hall, \u201cCrystal Duval is another impressive athlete that joined the team this year.
