{"id":2670,"date":"2025-03-18T18:53:40","date_gmt":"2025-03-18T18:53:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=2670"},"modified":"2025-03-18T18:53:40","modified_gmt":"2025-03-18T18:53:40","slug":"wetmore-places-second-at-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=2670","title":{"rendered":"Wetmore places second at state"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>CORE Wrestling Club sends six to California State Tournament in Fresno<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FRESNO &gt;&gt; The CORE Wrestling Club sent six wrestlers to the California State Tournament last weekend in Fresno.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am very proud of all of them,\u201d CORE coach Daniel Hooten said. \u201cIt takes a lot of courage to drive five hours and wrestle wrestlers at the highest level the state has to offer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Making the trip were Eric Holley, Ryan Ramirez, Wyatt Hooten, Sampson Wetmore, Tucker Heywood and Georgia Emerson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wetmore upset the No. 1 seed in his second match en route to a second-place finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSampson had a great day,\u201d Hooten said. \u201cHis championship match was close as well, only falling short by a few points. Sampson placed second and got himself a bear (trophy).\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emerson, competing in the 125-pound school girls bracket, which featured 16 wrestlers overall, also turned in a solid effort, according to Hooten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cShe wrestles her heart out with a very close second match,\u201d Hooten said. \u201cGeorgia is determined to get better every time she steps on the mat, whether it\u2019s practice or a tournament. She has a very good work ethic and carries herself with dignity.
