KELSEYVILLE >> Luis Alvarado scored twice and had an assist as the Kelseyville High School varsity boys soccer team closed out its season with 5-0 non-league victory over St. Vincent on Saturday afternoon at Kelseyville High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jake Smart, Bryan Vences and Sebastian Cacho had the other Kelseyville goals as the Knights finished the 2024-25 season at 3-16-3. Tony Rivas assisted on two of the Kelseyville goals, and Luis Valdovinos and Diego Rico also logged assists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat a great way to go out!\u201d Kelseyville head coach KC White said. \u201cThe seniors go out with a win, and everyone else goes in the offseason with higher hopes for next season. The team played as one today.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelseyville struck early while building a 2-0 halftime lead. Just four minutes into the game Valdovinos took the ball out wide and crossed it to Smart, who volleyed it in to make it 1-0. In the 17th<\/sup> minute, Tony Rivas\u2019 throw-in found the head of Alvarado, who calmly put it into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Knights out-shot the Mustangs 9-1 in the first half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelseyville added to its lead in the 53th minute on a Vence header off a Rivas throw-in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis was Bryan\u2019s first game of the season,\u201d White said. \u201cHe had done stats for me this season while he was healing from an injury. He\u2019s a senior, so I gave him the opportunity to play today, and it paid off.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two minutes later, Alvarado sent a through ball to Cacho, who knocked it past the keeper to make it 4-0. A cross by Rico to Alvarado four minutes later completed the scoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis was not the easiest of seasons,\u201d White said. \u201cFrom our record to the amount of travel we had to endure, my team showed a lot of character to not give up. They could have packed it in, but ultimately this group likes to play with one another. I\u2019m excited for the future, but also sad to say goodbye to my seniors, a tremendous group of young men.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Added White, \u201cI subbed out the seniors (Valdovinos, Rivas, Vences, Carlos Mendoza and Jonathan Gonzalez) one by one late in the second half to give each guy his due. This day was about them. I have been coaching most of them for three years, so it was an emotional day for me as well. I feel honored to have been their coach. I\u2019m proud of each one for being a tremendous human being. They will do great things in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kelseyville switches from winter soccer to fall soccer next season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe boys are excited to play local teams again,\u201d White said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clear Lake, Middletown, Lower Lake and Upper Lake all play fall soccer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
