{"id":2273,"date":"2025-02-10T18:52:10","date_gmt":"2025-02-10T18:52:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=2273"},"modified":"2025-02-10T18:52:10","modified_gmt":"2025-02-10T18:52:10","slug":"heat-squad-takes-second-in-gold-bracket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=2273","title":{"rendered":"Heat squad takes second in gold bracket"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Middletown club volleyball team goes 7-1 at Quijote Tournament Series in Cottonwood<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>COTTONWOOD &gt;&gt; The Heat 14-and-under club volleyball team out of Middletown finished second in the gold bracket with a 7-1 record Saturday during the Quijote Tournament Series at West Valley High School in Cottonwood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of 21 teams entered, the Heat squad won its first seven matches before finally losing to Shasta Elite 22-20, 21-18 in the gold bracket championship match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe played six back-to-back matches before a much-needed 45-minute break, then finished up with the final two matches,\u201d Heat head coach Erika Galvan said. \u201cPlaying this many games in a day shows that grit and mental toughness that our girls have. I\u2019m so proud of how hard they worked to earn a win on each set.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Heat scored four straight-set wins in pool play, defeating NSVA Wallace 21-8, 21-10, Momentum Blue 21-7, 21-14, NSVA Wallace 21-14, 21-6, and Momentum Blue 21-10, 21-14<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In bracket play, the Heat notched three more straight-set victories, taking down NSVA Red Bluff 21-15, 21-17, Momentum Black 21-19, 21-18, and Momentum Purple 21-6, 22-20, before losing to Shasta Elite in the finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Team leaders were middle hitter Emma Davis with 34 kills, 11 aces, 101 digs and one block; setter Trinity Galvan with 24 aces, 56 digs, eight kills and 44 assists; opposite hitter Kaia Bohan with 22 aces, 61 digs, six kills and 11 assists; and outside hitter Emma Jones with 12 kills and 22 aces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have a mix of more seasoned players and new players, and the older players really worked to help the younger players out on the court,\u201d Galvan said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 14-and-under team returns to action Feb. 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"491\" src=\"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG_0533-1024x491.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2274\" srcset=\"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG_0533-1024x491.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG_0533-300x144.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG_0533-768x369.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG_0533.jpeg 1196w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Middletown club volleyball team goes 7-1 at Quijote Tournament Series in Cottonwood Lake County Sports on Facebook COTTONWOOD &gt;&gt; The Heat 14-and-under club volleyball team out of Middletown finished second in the gold bracket with a 7-1 record Saturday during the Quijote Tournament Series at West Valley High School in Cottonwood.
