{"id":1989,"date":"2025-01-15T18:10:34","date_gmt":"2025-01-15T18:10:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=1989"},"modified":"2025-01-15T18:10:34","modified_gmt":"2025-01-15T18:10:34","slug":"watson-unloads-on-cardinals-in-kville-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=1989","title":{"rendered":"Watson unloads on Cardinals in K&#8217;ville win"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Knights, Mustangs, Cougars post wins in JV boys basketball action<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KELSEYVILLE &gt;&gt; Joey Watson scored 15 of his team-leading 21 points during a 31-point Kelseyville first quarter Tuesday night as the Knights hammered the Clear Lake Cardinals 85-34 in North Central League I junior varsity boys basketball action at Kelseyville.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelseyville (5-0 league, 9-6 overall) raced out to a 53-13 halftime lead to remain the only undefeated team in the NCL I standings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was a good ol\u2019 fashioned butt whooping,\u201d Clear Lake head coach Shady Cerezo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All 12 players on Kelseyville\u2019s roster reached the scoring column. Joining Watson in double figures were teammates Jair Carrillo with 12 points and 10 assists, Nick Arredondo with 10 points and seven rebounds, and Ryan Keithly with 10 points. Jacob Amendola added seven points and 10 rebounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Noah Cleaver\u2019s 10 points led the Cardinals (2-3), who had a two-game league winning streak snapped. Nolan Buffalo finished with seven points and Gael Moreno had six.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelseyville travels to Cloverdale on Friday to play the Eagles (3-2). Clear Lake hosts Lower Lake (0-5) on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other JV league action Tuesday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Middletown 65, St. Helena 57<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At St. Helena, the Middletown Mustangs (4-1, 11-5) remained one game behind Kelseyville in the league standings with a victory over the St. Helena Saints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe refs let both teams play pretty loose,\u201d Middletown head coach Andy Brown said of the five free throws shot by the Mustangs during the game. \u201cWe are playing consistent now with outstanding play from freshman Johnny Finney and stellar shooting by sophomore Cody Perez. We controlled the boards all night.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perez and Finney each finished with 16 points while Leland Pike and Nalu Johnson added nine each and Valentin Jimenez seven. Three Mustangs rebounded in double digits led by Jimenez with 12 boards and Johnson and Finney with 10 each. Finney also had five steals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>St. Helena made a run at Middletown late, closing from a 17-point deficit to just seven points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut we got our act together and finished strong,\u201d Brown said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown hosts Upper Lake (2-3) on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Upper Lake 68, Lower Lake 27<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Upper Lake, Sean Way scored 18 points and TJ Malicay had 16 as the Upper Lake Cougars improved to 2-3 in the NCL I standings with a victory over Lower Lake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGreat all-around game,\u201d Upper Lake head coach Lupeli Faleagafulu said. \u201cWe were fast on defense and making smart decisions on offense.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Added Faleagafulu, \u201cBrody (Blancas) and Sean each had 10 rebounds, and TJ snuck in 10 steals.
