{"id":1908,"date":"2025-01-08T20:23:19","date_gmt":"2025-01-08T20:23:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=1908"},"modified":"2025-01-08T20:23:19","modified_gmt":"2025-01-08T20:23:19","slug":"lady-mustangs-knights-roll-to-league-wins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=1908","title":{"rendered":"Lady Mustangs, Knights roll to league wins"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Hoogendoorn scores 28 for Middletown, Wurm 20 for Kelseyville<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MIDDLETOWN &gt;&gt; Mia Hoogendoorn scored 28 points without playing much in the fourth quarter and the Middletown Mustangs came out shooting in the second half to beat the Lower Lake Trojans 53-34 in North Central League I varsity girls basketball action Tuesday night in Middletown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown (2-1 league, 9-4 overall) pulled away from Lower Lake (1-2, 5-9) with a 23-8 third quarter after taking a 20-13 lead into halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a team, we came out of the locker room at halftime focused,\u201d Middletown head coach Roxi Holt said. \u201cWe came out and did what we needed to do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoogendoorn, who is now one point behind Tyler Hunt (1,230 points) for second place on Middletown\u2019s list of career scoring leaders, accumulated nearly half of her game total \u2013 12 points \u2013 in the third quarter. Jordyn Harbison also had six of her nine points in the third quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMomentum definitely shifted in the third quarter,\u201d Holt said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m proud of the girls\u2019 play down the stretch,\u201d Lower Lake head coach Shannon Tubbs said. \u201cThey continued to battle the whole way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brooke Watson\u2019s 12 points, all on 3-pointers, led the Trojans. Irianna Milano added seven points while Brooke Benson had five points and six rebounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two teams were tied at 8 after the first quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Izzi Hoogendoorn and Harley Holley had five points apiece for Middletown, which travels to Santa Rosa on Wednesday to play Sonoma Academy in a varsity-only game at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lower Lake hits the road Friday to play St. Helena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other girls basketball action Tuesday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kelseyville 54, St. Helena 32<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At St. Helena, Ashlyn Wurm scored a season-best 20 points as the Kelseyville Knights put together back-to-back 20-point quarters to knock off the St. Helena Saints, their fifth win in six games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEveryone stepped up and contributed to the win,\u201d Kelseyville head coach Tim Conrad said. \u201cOur trap really hurt them. We created a lot of loose balls and turnovers. When they did break it, they didn\u2019t have much time left to score against our half-court defense.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leading 9-2 after one quarter, Kelseyville went on to score 20 points in the second quarter and another 20 in the third quarter for a 49-23 lead. Wurm had 15 of the team\u2019s 20 points in the second quarter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matisyn Mateer scored eight of her 13 points in the third quarter, including two 3-pointers. Nyejzniya Krohn joined Wurm and Mateer in double digits with 10 points. Briana Davis also had a big night with six points, seven rebounds (five offensive), eight assists, five steals and four blocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelseyville improved to 2-1 in league and 7-6 overall. The Knights are home Friday to play Upper Lake at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Fort Bragg 56, Clear Lake 43<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Lakeport, the league-leading Fort Bragg Timberwolves (3-0) built a double-digit lead in the first quarter and carried that advantage the rest of the way against Clear Lake (1-2, 4-7).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Faith McIntire led the Cardinals with 26 points, 13 rebounds and four steals while Kaylah Billig added seven points, six rebounds and two steals.
