{"id":1706,"date":"2024-12-18T00:01:30","date_gmt":"2024-12-18T00:01:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=1706"},"modified":"2024-12-18T00:01:30","modified_gmt":"2024-12-18T00:01:30","slug":"givens-gudino-sardana-place-second","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=1706","title":{"rendered":"Givens, Gudino, Sardana place second"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Lower Lake High School wrestles compete in Battle for the Buttes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>YUBA CITY &gt;&gt; Lower Lake High School\u2019s girls and boys wrestling teams turned in a strong showing Saturday during the Battle for the Buttes tournament in Yuba City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Trojans sent 23 wrestlers \u2013 nine girls and 14 boys \u2013 to the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Girls<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No. 1 seed Riley Givens placed second at 105 pounds, her only loss coming in the finals to a Yuba City senior.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No. 3 seed Greer Mayer lost her first match but battled all the back in the consolation bracket to take third at 110 pounds. Her only loss came to the eventual second-place medalist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll the other girls wrestling tough and got some good, valuable lessons that they should carry to their next matches,\u201d Lower Lake head coach Danny Cuellar said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Boys<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had some awesome matches,\u201d Cuellar said of Lower Lake\u2019s boys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Arturo Gudino, the tournament\u2019s defending champion at 106 pounds, ended up second this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cArturo wrestled really well with superb technique,\u201d Cuellar said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jesse Saldana, a freshman, also ended up with a second-place medal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe kid can wrestle, very technical as well, though in the finals he fell short to a senior from Yuba City,\u201d Cuellar said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AJ Myers and Daniel Garner came in sixth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The boys took seven out of 25 teams while the girls were eighth out of 25 teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"407\" height=\"333\" src=\"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/ll-wrestling.jpg-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1708\" style=\"width:842px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/ll-wrestling.jpg-1.jpeg 407w, https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/ll-wrestling.jpg-1-300x245.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 407px) 100vw, 407px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Lower Lake&#8217;s Daniel Garner (left) took part in the Battle for the Buttes on Saturday in Yuba City.
