{"id":1599,"date":"2024-12-08T17:08:01","date_gmt":"2024-12-08T17:08:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=1599"},"modified":"2024-12-08T17:08:01","modified_gmt":"2024-12-08T17:08:01","slug":"lady-mustangs-win-consolation-crown","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=1599","title":{"rendered":"Lady Mustangs win consolation crown"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Kelseyville logs first victory, Lower Lake falls in tourney consolation finals<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SANTA ROSA &gt;&gt; As soon as the Middletown offense woke up, it was game over for Napa High School as the Lady Mustangs picked up the pace in the second half to win 51-18 in the consolation championship game of the Piner Tournament on Saturday in Santa Rosa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe finally woke up in the second half,\u201d Middletown head coach Roxi Holt said after the Mustangs scored just 14 points in the first half and yet still led by 10 \u2013 14-4 \u2013 at halftime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere really wasn\u2019t much for me to say to them at halftime,\u201d Holt said. \u201cWe just needed to play our game.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One bright spot in the first half was the play of Harley Holley, who scored eight of her nine points during the first two quarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHarley was able to find it tonight,\u201d Holt said. \u201cHer eight points gave us a lift in the first half. She did a great job.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rest of the Mustangs didn\u2019t heat up until the second half, including senior Mia Hoogendoorn, who scored 18 of her team-leading 22 points over the final two quarters, including three 3-pointers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Izzi Hoogendoorn, a freshman, finished with eight points and Jordyn Harbison added five.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Middletown led 5-0 after one quarter. The Mustangs outscored Napa 37-14 in the second half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mustangs (4-1), defending co-North Central League I champions, begin defense of their title against the other co-defending NCL I champion, Cloverdale, on Tuesday night in Cloverdale. It\u2019s a three-game set beginning with the junior varsity boys at 4 p.m., the varsity girls at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity boys at 7 p.m. Cloverdale doesn\u2019t have a JV girls team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other girls action Saturday:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Piner Tournament<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kelseyville 64, Roseland University Prep 16<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelseyville (1-3) nailed down its first win of the season, beating Roseland University Prep in the seventh-place game of the Piner Tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The girls were ready to get after it today,&#8221; Kelseyville head coach Tim Conrad said. &#8220;They were eager to get in the win column.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashlyn Wurm and Olivia Hommer powered the offense with 17 points apiece while Matisyn Mateer just missed a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds. Other significant contributors were Cali Schnabl with nine points and Briana Davis with seven points, six rebounds, four steals and two blocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur defense was outstanding,\u201d Conrad said. \u201cThe girls were talking, moving their feet and off to end at that end of the floor. We were everywhere. Every girl got a lot of playing time and made good on their opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Knights hit the road Tuesday to play Lower Lake (1-3) in the league opener for both teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sandy Mac Tournament<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ferndale 36, Lower Lake 15<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Cloverdale, shooting just 6-for-52 from the field, the Lower Lake Trojans lost to the Ferndale Wildcats in the consolation championship game of the Sandy Mac Tournament at Cloverdale High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe defense was slow to react today,\u201d Lower Lake head coach Shannon Tubbs said. \u201cOur offense had no continuity to it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brooke Watson finished with five points to lead the team while Jamiya Lee-Ayers pulled down a team-best 12 rebounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe just couldn\u2019t find a way to get out of the rut we created,\u201d Tubbs said. \u201cWe\u2019re hoping to get things in order before Tuesday\u2019s game against Kelseyville.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lower Lake\u2019s junior varsity team put a fight before falling 39-32 to Lodi in the championship game of the Galt Tournament.
