{"id":1587,"date":"2024-12-06T18:50:34","date_gmt":"2024-12-06T18:50:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=1587"},"modified":"2024-12-06T18:50:34","modified_gmt":"2024-12-06T18:50:34","slug":"lady-mustangs-knights-trojans-fall-short","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/briansumptersports.com\/?p=1587","title":{"rendered":"Lady Mustangs, Knights, Trojans fall short"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Middletown, Kelseyville lose at Piner Tournament, Lower Lake drops Sandy Mac opener<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lake County Sports on Facebook<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SANTA ROSA &gt;&gt; The Middletown and Kelseyville varsity girls basketball teams dropped their first-round games Thursday at the Piner Tournament in Santa Rosa and will play each other Friday in the consolation semifinals at 4 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m kind of frustrated that we go to these out-of-county tourneys and now will play a league team, but it is what it is,\u201d Middletown head coach Roxi Holt said following what she called a \u201cfrustrating\u201d 34-21 loss to Healdsburg, the same team that beat the Mustangs 36-34 last year in the opening round of the North Coast Section playoffs, ending their season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Kelseyville dropped into the consolation bracket with a 44-33 loss to Rancho Cotate of Rohnert Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Middletown<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the Mustangs held a 9-8 lead against Healdsburg after one quarter, Middletown struggled to score points the rest of the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe played very sloppy, way too many turnovers,\u201d Holt said. \u201cYou cannot win a game scoring as low as we did. We have been dealing with illness and injury and need to get healthy quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other than Mia Hoogendoorn\u2019s 16 points, no other Middletown player had more than two points as the Mustangs (2-1) dropped their first game of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe hung with them until late in the third quarter,\u201d Holt said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kelseyville<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kelseyville held a 16-14 lead at halftime against Rancho Cotate in its tournament opener, but the Cougars pushed ahead to stay with an 18-6 third quarter, the difference in the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are having trouble initiating and running our offense,\u201d Kelseyville head coach Tim Conrad said.&nbsp; \u201cI felt like we were more prepared to play tonight, but the results aren\u2019t there right now. We also had a rough start as Mati Mateer had a head injury before the game and was unavailable. Freak accident, and hopefully she will be able to go tomorrow (Friday). If you ask her, she\u2019s playing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Olivia Hommer led Kelseyville (0-2) with 17 points, going 5-for-6 from the free-throw line, and she also had five rebounds. Cali Schnabl added seven points, Briana Davis contributed six points, five rebounds and five blocks, Nyejzniya Krohn pulled down a team-best seven rebounds, and Ashlyn Wurm had six rebounds and three steals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sandy Mac Tournament<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Windsor 50, Lower Lake 35<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At Cloverdale, Brooke Benson and Brooke Watson scored seven points apiece as the Lower Lake Trojans fell to the Windsor Jaguars in the opening round of the Sandy Mac Tournament at Cloverdale High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lower Lake draws Round Valley in the consolation semifinals Friday at 3:30 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Trojans (0-2) stayed close to Windsor most of the way and trailed by only seven points with six minutes left in the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToo many (Lower Lake) fouls and a couple of (Windsor) 3-pointers sealed it,\u201d Lower Lake head coach Shannon Tubbs said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Benson hit a pair of 3-pointers for the Trojans.
